Notebook Technique Courses
- Facilitator: James Hollis
This course will guide participants through the process of creating an application that reveals information by sliding an object on the page. This technique can be used in a number of different ways to increase engagement and interaction with the information being displayed on the SMART Board.
This course utilizes important features of Notebook to achieve the desired effect. Teachers will learn to use simple color blending and grouping techniques to create dramatic effects. They will also learn how to customize the Notebook Toolbar, save pages to the Gallery, and resize objects at the same time. This course contains 12 short video tutorials and is divided into four sections that will guide the user through the entire process of building a custom student picker.
Participants will also learn/reinforce their skills in adding and modifying shape objects, selecting objects, grouping objects, ordering objects, locking objects, and changing page backgrounds.Professional Development Credit: 60 Minutes
- This course will guide participants through the process of creating a custom student selection generator that will randomly select a student when the user touches a button on the SMART Board.
This course uses a creative and simple technique that allows teachers to customize the random selector with the names of their students. Teachers can easily change the number of students and the names of the students so they can continue to use the application over and over again, year after year. This course contains 10 short video tutorials and is divided into four sections that will guide the user through the entire process of building a custom student picker.
In this course, participants will learn/reinforce their skills in adding and modifying shape objects, grouping objects, locking objects, changing backgrounds, and using Gallery objects.Professional Development Credit: 60 Minutes
- This course will guide participants through the process of building an animated scrolling feedback object that displays feedback when an object is touched. The benefit of this type of touch reveal is that the animation does not reset itself when you exit and return to the page .
This course uses a unique technique that allows teachers to build a scrolling reveal animation to reveal information that is activated by touching an object. Teachers will use this technique to create a one-touch scroll reveal template for a four-answer multiple choice question.
In this course, participants will learn/reinforce their skills in setting background, ordering objects, locking object (allow move), cloning objects, grouping objects, animating objects, aligning objects, saving objects to the Gallery, and setting Gallery object properties.Professional Development Credit: 90 Minutes
- This course will guide participants through the process of inserting and displaying flash video files inside Smart Notebook 10.
In addition, participants will utilize a web-based tool for downloading flash video files from the Internet so they can be inserted directly into Notebook. This is valuable when your school's broadband is not fast enough to stream videos from the Internet or when video sharing services like YouTube are blocked by your school's Internet server.
This course contains 12 short video tutorials and is divided into five sections that will guide the user through the entire process of building a one-page application that displays a flash video file inside a custom video frame.
In addition to learning how to insert flash video files, participants will also learn how to use the built-in flash video player, how to insert a graphic image to improve the way the video looks when playing, how to add a color background to your page, and how to save your flash video file to your Gallery.Professional Development Credit: 60 Minute
- This course will introduce the teacher to the table object in Smart Notebook Version 10. Participants will create an animal identification application that can be used inside the classroom. The techniques learned in this course will allow participants to utilize the table object efficiently and effectively in other Notebook applications.
Participants will learn how to add and move tables, how to add text objects to table cells, how to add images to table cells, how to insert rows and columns, how to merge and delete cells, how to lock tables, and how to add cell shades to table cells.
Professional Development Credit: 75 Minutes - This short-course will guide the participant through the process of using object animation to reveal information as a way of providing instant feedback during a lesson.
Participants will learn how to apply animation to an object to create an authentic learning application for the classroom.
In addition to learning how to apply the animation property to objects, participants will practice/learn how to place an image inside a color rectangle, group objects together, add and modify text object properties, and change the ordering of objects on a page.
Professional Development Credit: 60 Minutes - This short-course will guide the participant through the process of using object animation to make text objects flash when they are touched on the SMART Board. In addition to learning how to apply the animation property to objects, participants will practice/learn how to duplicate objects, change text color, and make minute adjustments to objects using the keyboard.
